Training for Tron: Legacy

Olivia played the physically challenging character of Quorra in Tron: Legacy. For this, she was subjected to quite a grueling process of weight training, Circuit Training Cardio, and Mixed Martial Arts.

Weight Training

Weight training took 3 days a week.

It typically included Squats, Lunges and planks, and curls with lightweight dumbbells. She didn’t bulk up for the role but rather built some lean muscles and toned up her body.

 

Cardio

Cardio occupied about 5 days a week and included running, burpees, jumping jacks, squat jumps, and jogging.

 

Mixed Martial Arts

MMA was a core skill she required to be a fighter in the movie. Once her strength was built through the above exercises, her trainer Patrick Murphy moved to more intense Mixed Martial Arts training. MMA builds cardiovascular health, improves mental fitness, and inculcates overall discipline in life.

In her interview on the topic of fitness and health, the actor revealed that a specific goal orientation helps in achieving the discipline and consistency required as opposed to some vague idea of being fitter or looking better, which in her case is the specific role she was preparing for.
