But these disorders are often interlaced with preexisting mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety disorders. Unfortunately, a healthy celebrity diet plan alone is not enough to battle the demons of depression. So many celebs look to clean and healthy eating as a panacea to bodily ills. While healthy eating certainly goes a long way towards healthy living, it’s but one cog in the wheel when battling mental health issues. 

While the growing chasm between virtues and vices can tend towards bad habits, celebrities often battle the same issues that plague the rest of us, notably mental health disorders. Bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, OCD, and other problems are rampant among celebrities. Fortunately, these folks are not shy about seeking help for mental health issues. 

Celebs routinely try spiritual healing, herbal remedies, and psychotherapy techniques. But in recent years, many celebrities are turning to TMS therapy – an FDA-approved, non-surgical option for treating depression. 1) Britney Spears 

The pop screen siren has been open about her battles with anxiety and depression. In an interview with Vogue, she once revealed that she takes medication to cope with her mental health issues. She also spoke about how therapy has helped her deal with her struggles. Additionally, after several years of legal wrangling, Spears finally wrested control over her financial affairs. She stated that her parents controlled her financial empire, causing her significant mental distress.

2) Demi Lovato 

The singer has been vocal about her battle with bipolar disorder and addiction. She has spoken openly about how these disorders have affected her life and career. In 2018, she overdosed on opioids and was hospitalized for several days. She is often in and out of recovery and works to help others struggling with mental health issues.

3) Selena Gomez 

The actress & singer has been candid about her battle with anxiety and depression. She revealed that she sought treatment after having a breakdown during the making of the film “Spring Breakers” Gomez also has lupus, which can cause fatigue, joint pain, and other symptoms that can trigger or worsen mental health problems. 

In 2016, she canceled the remainder of her tour to focus on her health and took a break from social media. However, Gomez returned to Instagram in 2017 and opened up about her experience with anxiety and depression, saying that she was “grateful” for therapy and medication. In addition, she recently said she is “proud” of herself for speaking out about mental health issues because it’s helped people feel less alone.

4) Justin Bieber 

The pop megastar has spoken about his anxiety, depression, and Lyme disease (a bacterial infection that can cause fatigue, joint pain, and other symptoms). In 2019, he canceled the last 14 dates of his world tour due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

He later explained that he was struggling with anxiety and needed to take a break from touring to focus on his mental health. Bieber also said that he’s been working hard on himself emotionally and spiritually over the past few years as he’s dealt with “a lot of heavy stuff.”

5) Robin Williams 

The late actor & comedian was open about his severe battle with depression. In an interview with Diane Sawyer in 2006, he spoke about how therapy and medication helped him deal with his disorder over the years. Williams also discussed how his work as a comedian helped him cope with his depression. 


“Comedy was my drug of choice”, he said. His passing is regarded as the most high-profile loss in Hollywood regarding mental health disorders. The iconic Robin Williams was hailed as the most talented comedian of his time, alongside giants like Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, and Jerry Seinfeld. 


6) Kurt Cobain

Kurt Cobain, the lead singer of Nirvana, killed himself with a shotgun wound to the head on April 5, 1994. It is believed that Cobain was suffering from depression at the time of his death. He had been taking antidepressants, but it is unclear if they were prescribed or if he was self-medicating. 

In the months following his death, Cobain had become increasingly withdrawn and isolated. He was also dealing with chronic pain from an undiagnosed stomach condition. It is thought that the combination of physical pain and mental anguish became too much for him to bear, and he took his own life to escape the suffering.
